25.02.04 "Stay Cool Baby!" - Heat impaires concentration and vision.
Long car journeys hold risks. According to industrial medical opinion, the temperature for concentrated activity should not rise above 26°C. The temperature on warm days in a car without window film or an air conditioning system can be 5°C to 15°C over the outside temperature.
Heat can cause symptoms similar to those experienced following the consumption of alcohol, response time decreases and reactions to critical situations are slower. If the interior temperature of the vehicle rises from 22°C to 37°C, the accident risk rises by about 30%.
Both the driver and the passengers suffer from the high temperatures. Irritation and exhaustion can result. Heart palpitation increases and the motivation sinks. Above all, children who do not have an understanding of long-distance travelling, can suffer from the heat.
Drivers can have a decreased optical vision, smaller spatial vision as well as a bad contrast perception.
