The current job market is incredibly volatile, with many people concerned that AI or machine technology will make their role redundant in the years and decades to come.

Some jobs, however, will always be in demand and one of the those which has flourished whilst others have fallen is that of a vehicle tyre fitter.

Whilst there are cars, vans, motorbikes and more on our roads, tyre fitters will be absolutely essential to keeping the country moving, and there are many fantastic reasons why this is a career you should be considering.

You might think that you know exactly what tyre fitters do (t’s in the name right?) but there is actually a lot more that goes into the role than you might imagine.

This article will explain what it takes to become a tyre fitter in the first place, and give you an idea of what it would be like to work for a leading mobile tyre fitting company such as Mobile Tyres Glasgow on a daily basis.

Whilst there are no set requirements for an individual looking to become a tyre fitter, do not be fooled into thinking that this is a job that just anyone can do.

For a start, this is a job where you will be constantly on the move and is still highly manual despite technological advancements. You will need to be physically fit and have a knack for picking up manual skills on the go.

You will be working directly with customers from every walk of life on a daily basis and great communication skills are an absolute must. When you are out in the field, you are a representative of the company that you are working for, or yourself if you are self employed, and a poor customer experience can result in damage to your reputation.

There are plenty of different training courses that can help you on the road to becoming a successful tyre fitter and some of the qualifications that may be a pre-requisite for working for a mobile tyre fitting firm include GSCEs, or college diplomas in tyre fitting or vehicle technology.

Often people get into the role through an apprenticeship programme where they will be able to acquire qualifications whilst gaining real-life experience of working in a tyre shop or on the road as a mobile tyre fitting assistant.

Mobile tyre fitters must be comfortable in a variety of different environments, working either alone or as part of a team and have a passion for a job well done.

Whilst the majority of their role is a manual one, you will probably need to be computer literate to an extent and capable of operating a variety of handheld devices whilst on the job.
